Donated wheelchairs can make a real difference, but a successful donation takes more than delivering a wheelchair.

ISWP’s new toolkit will help donors, recipient organisations and partners plan donations that are ethical, safe and effective, and support lasting access to appropriate wheelchairs and services.

We’re making the final preparations. The toolkit will be available here soon.

What's inside?

Developed with input from wheelchair users, service providers and international organisations, the toolkit includes:

  • Core principles and practical guidance for responsible donation of new and used wheelchairs.
  • Checklists for donors and recipient services, including checks on wheelchair condition.
  • Guidance on working with local services and national systems, including assessment, fitting, training, repair and follow-up.
  • Case studies showing the challenges, lessons and approaches from different settings.
  • Considerations for humanitarian contexts, including preparedness and coordination.
Whether you donate wheelchairs, receive them or support wheelchair provision, the toolkit will help you ask the right questions, recognise the risks and make better-informed decisions.

What reviewers are saying

Emma Smith

WHO Regional Office for Europe

"This is really useful guidance, which will hopefully have an impact on the quality of products received in lower resourced and humanitarian settings once disseminated."

Karen Reyes Castro

ATscale

"Strong, timely and much-needed paper, with the potential to become an important reference for responsible wheelchair donation and reuse."
