INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF WHEELCHAIR PROFESSIONALS (ISWP)
ISWP was born out of the need for greater coordination in the wheelchair sector in terms of collaboration, product knowledge, testing and training.

Advocating for governments to pay for appropriate wheelchairs and services.
Training professionals on assessing and fitting clients with appropriate wheelchairs and training wheelchair users on how to use and maintain their wheelchairs.
Improving the quality of wheelchairs by working with manufacturers, suppliers, and wheelchair technicians to raise the standards.

Last month, during the WHO-UNICEF African Regional Multi-country Workshop on Assistive Technology in Nairobi, Kenya, supported by the Government of Ireland, our Executive Director, Alex Kamadu, had the opportunity to connect with Bernard Chiira (AT4D).
Together, they discussed the future of assistive technology, innovation, and the importance of strengthening collaboration across Africa to improve access for those who need it most.

Early identification of postural risk is one of the most powerful tools in wheelchair service provision. This session explores how clinicians can move from reacting to postural challenges to anticipating them before they become severe or irreversible.
Drawing on evidence and clinical practice, the webinar will explore key indicators of future postural deterioration, the relationship between seating decisions and long-term musculoskeletal outcomes, and practical strategies to support earlier, more proactive intervention.

Our Executive Director, Alex Kamadu, recently met with Peter Mbuguah from Motivation Africa during his visit to Kenya. Motivation Africa is one of ISWP`s valued partners.
With a Memorandum of Understanding in place, the visit provided an opportunity to reflect on the issues in the country our shared priorities, discuss future areas of collaboration, and explore how we can continue strengthening appropriate wheelchair provision together.
Partnerships are essential to creating lasting change, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside organisations that share our commitment to improving access to appropriate wheelchairs and wheelchair services.
We look forward to deepening our relationship with Motivation Africa and creating even greater impact together in the region together with other key stakeholders.
